Food Shortages – Food Price Increases – Loss of Resources We Take for Granted….! Its been five days now since the disappointing actions of opportunists that turned a protest into destruction, violence, loss of lives, and loss of employment and income for innocent victims of the selfish few that turned peoples loss and devastation into looting and stealing. Its going to be a long time of healing for the country that once was called the Happi Isles is very much now the Sad Isles. Our group Lifting Communities – An Australian Not for Profit has been situated in the Solomon Islands for the past 10 years, has hired many locals and knows how hard it is for living as a local on a day to day basis in good times let alone when something like this happens. The outcomes to the innocent have the following impacts:-
* Shortage of food – over 1/3rd of the businesses that supply food were burnt to the ground
* Sever price increases of cost of staple food – Rice up to 80% increase, bottled water 20%
* All government jobs have been stopped until further notice
* Those businesses burnt down, the staff employed have lost their jobs and their wagesThere have been cleaning up the streets and talk of everything settling down with the presence of international help from Australia and neighbouring countries. What great support Australia and neighbouring countries has been! Its sad that a sensible approach could not be adopted with listening from both sides, and most importantly those that are elected to serve the people, listen to the people and make sure that every political decision is made for the best interest of everyone, not for a limited few.We live in an age where we should not have poverty, hunger and food shortages and supplies, we are all big people, we all have mouths to feed and families to look after, we need to make decisions for everyone around us not just our own inner circle as that is what it appears to have happened. Our not-for-profit has created donation packages for you to support so Solomon Island people will not go without basic necessities such as food, water, clothing and sanitary supplies, there are many casualties and if we can help some of them and alleviate some pressure we would like to do this. Please donate if you are in a position, paying it forward will always have long term consequences. We have teams of volunteers on the ground who will be distributing everything that is donated. We will keep you updated of the generosity and the lives you have helped on this website. We have a fund raising store where you can purchase goods for distribution or you can make a cash donation. We thank you in advance for visiting our website and hopefully pressing our donations listings.“A KIND GESTURE CAN REACH A WOUND THAT ONLY COMPASSION CAN HEAL” Steve MaraboliCaron Paul – President Lifting Communities Inc
